Film Project

To escape the vicious circle of poverty, children have to be empowered and given access to high quality education. Our filmmaking project aims to promote education, inspire social change and encourage creative self-expression by teaching the basics of filmmaking: how to write, direct, act in, shoot and produce their own films. Additionally, students will be responsible for event management and marketing as well. The classes will offer a safe and stimulating learning environment where students can acquire valuable skills and knowledge which could be exceedingly beneficial for their education, and future earning ability. We strongly believe that within the confines of the programme, children will be taught filmmaking techniques. They will gain practical and theoretical knowledge, learning from books and teachers who are trained and knowledgeable in filmmaking. To afford the necessary filmmaking tools and equipment, second hand products will be sought.  A wide range of tools and equipment will be available so that the students have experience in learning about cameras, audio, lighting, directing, developing a story and scriptwriting among others.

Goals

1. To train young people in the theoretical and practical basics of film making as a form of self-expression.
2. To engage young people in the promotion of their own work within their communities.
3. To train young people in communication and interpersonal skills as they become competent in visual storytelling.
4. To transfer IT and technical skills onto young people.
5. To give young people an avenue of creative self-expression.

The Challenge

Many children find themselves in a vicious cycle of poverty, unable to escape and unable to live out their childhoods the way children need to in order to become happy adults. These children lack quality education and forms of self-expression. The major’s challenge faced by the AYPAD Film Project itself is the lack of adequate filming equipment such as cameras, editing software, computers, and advanced knowledge in film training.

The Solution

The AYPAD Film Project aims to empower children, promote education, inspire social change and encourage creative self-expression. This is to be done by teaching children the basics of filmmaking: how to write, direct, act in, shoot and produce their own films. Students will also be responsible for event management and promoting and marketing their films. The course will offer a safe and stimulating learning environment for children who may be lacking in any other such spaces, including their living environments. A wide range of second hand tools and equipment will be available so that the students have experience in learning about cameras, audio, lighting, directing, developing a story and scriptwriting among others.
